Ry Vollrath, MA

Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (IOP)

Pronouns: They, Them, Their

My name is Ry Vollrath, and I am a Marriage and Family Therapy Associate. After receiving EMDR therapy as part of my own mental health journey, I decided to pursue a career in therapy to help others cope with and recover from complex trauma. To me, therapy is a vehicle for achieving freedom: freedom from the past, freedom to experience and express emotions, and freedom to make informed choices about our lives.

Therapeutic Approach

I primarily practice therapy through the experiential therapy model. Experiential therapy is rooted in helping patients “live in” and process difficult emotions as a vehicle for self-discovery and healing. I also draw from family systems theory, parts work, and solution-focused brief therapy to help patients contextualize their symptoms, normalize complex emotions, and develop therapeutic goals. I believe relationships play a critical role in how our mental health symptoms manifest — a belief that strongly informs my therapeutic approach and practice.

Credentials & Experience

I hold an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from National University with a specialization in trauma-informed care. I completed my clinical training at William Temple House in downtown Portland, where I spent much of my time working with couples and groups.

Outside the Office

Outside of work, I enjoy nerdy activities like playing tabletop role-playing games, reading science fiction, and playing video games. I spend a lot of time testing out vegan recipes and playing with my dog, Cashew. I’ve been living in Portland since 2022 and have loved exploring the natural beauty and culture of the PNW.
